Tips and tricks for making your own apple cider:

Whole or ground spices:

Whole allspice berries, cinnamon sticks, and cloves are the best options for making this delicious fall drink. When you use the whole spices you only get the taste and not the texture of the spice when you use a fine-mesh strainer to finish the cider.

More add-ins for making this cold day drink for the Fall season:

  • Star anise
  • Fresh cranberries
  • Caramel
  • Honey or maple syrup for sweeter cider

Type of apples to use:

I enjoy making this recipe with gala apples because we enjoy the flavor of them best. However, you could also use Pink Lady, Honeycrisp, or any other sweet apples to balance the warm spices.

But, truly you can use a variety of apples, so if you don’t want to the grocery stores searching for the right apples, you can always use the ones you have on hand.
