Some people think of hamburgers as summertime food, and don’t get me wrong, I love eating them in the summertime, but I think that they’re really an any-time-of-the-year food. The only problem is, when it’s the dead of winter you’re not going to go shovel the snow around your grill and fire it up, right? Okay, maybe some of you might, but I won’t. Anyway, when it’s cold outside I like to make burgers in the oven. These Sheet Pan Burgers with Onions and Potatoes are perfect for when you’re craving a little taste of summertime.
I love made-from-scratch burgers so much more than the premade ones that you buy from the store. They just taste fresher and I love that they don’t have all the fillers and additives that the store-bought ones have. And it’s actually cheaper to make them from scratch yourself.
These Sheet Pan Burgers are fantastic because you bake them along with some onions, so the burger comes out nice and moist and the onions are caramelized and delicious. Add these roasted potatoes and this is a perfect meal. Oh, and I almost forgot to mention, it’s all baked on the same sheet pan!
Ingredients for Sheet Pan Burgers
- ground beef (you can use ground turkey too if you’re looking for a lighter burger)
- breadcrumbs (you can actually make your own breadcrumbs if you don’t have any on hand)
- yellow mustard
- Worcestershire sauce
- yellow onion
- olive oil
- salt
- pepper
- sliced cheese
- hamburger buns
- lettuce, tomato, mayo, mustard, ketchup (or whatever other toppings you like)
- baby golden potatoes, diced
How to Make Sheet Pan Burgers
If you have an aversion to touching raw meat, this might make you a little squeamish. But it’s worth it! To make the patties, mix the ground beef and the spices together in a bowl. You could use my favorite meat chopper if you really want to minimize raw meat touching.
Form your patties and set them aside while you get your onions and potatoes ready. Toss your potatoes with salt and pepper and a little olive oil, and slice your onions thin.
Place the onions on the sheet pan, and put the patties on top. Make sure to leave room for your potatoes. It’s all going in the same sheet pan (these are my favorite sheet pans, btw!).
Bake for just under half an hour, until everything is cooked through.
Place slices of cheese on the burgers as soon as they come out of the oven, then scoop up some onions and a patty and place them on a bun with your desired toppings. Enjoy!
