Ingredients
1 lb ground beef *or you can use ground Italian sausage, ground turkey, or ground chicken as a substitute*
1 yellow onion, diced
1 tbsp minced garlic
2 tsp salt
1 tsp pepper
1 tsp onion powder
1 tsp garlic powder
1 tsp dried basil
1 tsp dried oregano
1 cup uncooked orzo
1 cup beef broth
14 oz tomato sauce
1 cup heavy cream
3/4 cup water
2 cups fresh chopped spinach
1/3 cup parmesan cheese
Directions
- To a large Dutch oven or pot on the stove add the ground beef and onion, break the ground beef up and crumble with a spatula or meat masher, cook the meat through. Once cooked remove any excess grease in the pot.
- Now add in the minced garlic, seasonings, and orzo stir well for 15 seconds.
Add in the beef broth, tomato sauce, and heavy cream stir well. Let simmer for 3 minutes *stirring often* so the orzo doesn’t stick to the bottom of the pot. - Stir in the water, chopped spinach, and Parmesan cheese, let simmer covered with the lid for 10 minutes *stirring occasionally so the orzo doesn’t stick* until the orzo is cooked through and tender. Enjoy!
