It is a truth universally acknowledged that mashed potatoes are the greatest of all Thanksgiving foods. It’s not up for debate. They are the BEST! I mean what’s not to love. They’re creamy, carb-y, salty, savory, buttery, and luscious. And these Garlic Herb Mashed Potatoes are all of those things, plus extra flavorful. Serve these at your Thanksgiving and everyone will be swooning over these amazing mashed potatoes!

Ingredients for Garlic Herb Mashed Potatoes

These mashed potatoes don’t take a ton of ingredients, thankfully, but you do want to make sure that you’re using the right ingredients!

How to Make Garlic Mashed Potatoes

Making mashed potatoes isn’t hard, you just need to make sure that you plan accordingly. These potatoes are best served right away, so plan to make these just before you sit down to eat. Plan on a little extra time if your spuds take longer to cook, but don’t make them hours and hours before dinner.

First, bring a large pot of water to boil. While you’re waiting for your water to heat up, peel and cut your potatoes into chunks. They don’t need to be super small.

Once the water is boiling, add them to the pot and boil until they are fork tender. This should take about 15 minutes but could take longer depending on the size of your potato chunks.

Strain the potatoes and set them aside. In the pot you boiled the water in, add the butter, garlic, and seasonings and cook until the butter in melted and the garlic is fragrant.

Then, add the potatoes back into the pot and mash them with a potato masher (this is a great one). Stir them up so the butter and seasonings are all distributed. Taste and season accordingly. Serve immediately, with or without gravy. They are delicious and flavorful either way!
