Ingredients for Easy Red Beans and Rice

A box of rice mix costs just under $2 and is a perfect start to this meal. It is already seasoned so you really don’t need to add much to the recipe and you can keep costs low. To make this meal, you’ll only need 4 ingredients.

How to Make Red Beans and Rice

Making this dish is super easy. Start by cutting the sausage in half longwise, then slicing it into half moons.
Over the stove, heat a large skillet and add some oil. Cook the sausage for a couple of minutes on each side until the sausage is golden brown on both sides.

Next, add in the water and the rice mix and scrape the bits from the bottom of the pan. The bits have so much flavor and you want them in your food, not stuck to the bottom of the pan.

Cover and simmer on low for 25 minutes. Serve with your favorite toppings- I like chopped tomatoes, shredded cheese and avocado- and enjoy!

What to Serve with Red Beans and Rice

This can be served as a side dish or a main dish. If you want to serve it as a full and complete meal, you can serve it by itself and it will be super filling and yummy! You can also add some chopped tomatoes, shredded cheese, and avocado slices to add some extra flavors and textures.

You can also serve this as a side dish alongside grilled meat or fish.

Ingredients

  • 14 oz Kielbasa sausage

  • 1 tbsp olive oil

  • 12 oz box Zatarain’s Red Beans and Rice

  • 3 cups water

Directions

  • Cut the sausage in half longwise, then slice into half moons.
  • To a large skillet over medium-high heat, add the oil. Once hot, add in the sausage and cook for 3 minutes on each side to create a golden brown sear. Add in the water and rice mix. With a spatula, scrape all of the flavorful bits off the bottom of the pan and stir everything together.
  • Bring up to a simmer, turn the heat to low and cover. Let simmer for 25 minutes, stirring occasionally, or until the rice is tender. Turn the heat off and let sit for 2-4 minutes. Serve and enjoy!
