Frozen hashbrowns are pretty good, but making your own breakfast potatoes is not too much effort and they always end up so delicious! Breakfast potatoes are one of my favorite breakfast dishes ever. These potatoes are so flavorful and tasty thanks to my favorite seasonings and a healthy dose of butter and olive oil! Make these for your celebratory breakfast and serve them alongside something sweet like my French Toast Casserole or German Pancakes.
Ingredients for Crockpot Breakfast Potatoes
You don’t need a ton of ingredients to make tasty breakfast potatoes. In this recipe I use garlic, paprika and seasoning salt to season the potatoes. I like using seasoning salt as a shortcut because it packs so much flavor into the dish.
- baby red or golden potatoes
- white onion
- minced garlic
- seasoning salt
- paprika
- butter
- olive oil (this is the kind I use all the time)
- red bell pepper (optional, but adds good flavor and makes your dish pretty!)
How to Make Crockpot Breakfast Potatoes
You’re in luck because this recipe is supremely easy. Really all you have to do is cut up the potatoes, mix them with all the other ingredients, and cook them in the slow cooker for 3-5 hours until they are fork-tender.
Ok, now we should talk about timing. You can plan for this recipe in a variety of ways. If you wake up three hours before you want to eat breakfast, you can prepare these and put them on High to cook. Just depends on what time you wake up and when you want to eat.
If you’re more of a night owl, you could stay up and cook these on low for 5 hours while you sleep. After the 5 hours is up the slow cooker always changes to a warming setting. Depending on how long you sleep, your potatoes will be ready and warm by the time you wake up. You don’t want to leave them on the warming setting for too long though, so if you plan on sleeping for 10+ hours (you can dream, right?) you might wake up to mushy potatoes.
