Classic Shepherd’s Pie

Ingredients

  • 1 lb ground beef

  • 1 white onion, diced

  • 4 large carrots, sliced

  • 2 tsp dried parsley

  • 1 tsp dried rosemary

  • 1 tsp dried thyme

  • 1 tbs worcestershire sauce

  • 2 tbs all purpose flour

  • 2 tbs tomato paste

  • 1 cup beef broth

  • 1 cup frozen peas

  • 1.5 cups shredded sharp cheddar cheese

  • *mashed potatoes*

Directions

  • Preheat oven to 400โ„‰
  • Using about 1lb of potatoes make mashed potatoes! I made mine in the instant pot but you can also to it on the stove.
  • To a skillet on the stove add the ground beef, onion, and carrots cook the beef through then remove any access grease. Now add in the seasonings, salt, pepper, parsley, rosemary, and thyme stir well. Now add in the worcestershire sauce and flour stir well. Add in the tomato paste stir. Lastly add the broth and frozen peas in stir well and let simmer for 7 minutes on the stove.
  • Spray a 9×13 baking dish with nonstick spray then add the shepherds pie filling in spread it out evenly then carefully spread the mashed potatoes all over the filling. Sprinkle with the cheese and bake for 25 minutes. Enjoy

  1. This was excellent! I did add 2 bay leaves when simmering for the 7 minutes and broiled at the end. All 4 of us really liked this one. Definitely going into our rotation.

  2. This meal was yummy! I substituted frozen carrots and peas together because that is what I had that in the freezer. It still came out so yummy!

    This is NOT Shepherds Pie. It is a Cottage Pie. There’s only 2 meats that are appropriate for this dish: 1) Lamb or 2) Shepherd!

  4. Best Shepherds pie recipe I have made. I did cheat a bit and make instant mashed potatoes, it did not compromise the taste. My husband is from Ireland and loved it ! Of all the shepherds pie recipes Iโ€™ve tried I have to give this one a complete five star, total thumbs up ๐Ÿ™‚
