In the mood for some Mexican, but don’t want to go out and get some? Try this Taco Rice recipe that is made with simple ingredients that you can find in your pantry in less than 20 minutes and for $5 or less.
You can even serve this Taco Rice on some flour tortillas add in a little more cheese and roll it up to make a simple dinner or appetizer.
So, keep this recipe in mind the next time you are wanting to go to eat at a Mexican restaurant and it isn’t in the budget, you will still leave the table happy and full!
Ingredients for Taco Rice ($5 Dinner)
Rice: use uncooked white rice in a bag
Seasoning: taco seasoning (in a package or homemade taco seasoning) and chili powder
Cheese: shredded sharp cheddar cheese or whatever you have on hand already
Beans: use a can of black beans and rinse and drain them before using them
Onion: a diced yellow onion or white onion will do just fine
Tomatoes: a can of diced tomatoes with green chilis like Rotel
How to make Taco Rice ($5 Dinner)
- Cook the rice according to the package instructions.
Add the cooked rice to a large pot over medium heat on the stove, add in the taco seasoning, chili powder, black beans, and diced onion stir well, and let cook together for 5 minutes.
Stir in the cheese and let it melt, serve!

Fridge: If you have leftover taco rice, place it in an airtight container and store it in the fridge for 4-5 day.
