Italian Cobb Salad Sub

Italian Cobb Salad Sub — is it a sub or a salad? To answer your questions, yes, it is both! This cold cuts Italian sub salad is where the cobb salad and the delicious sub sandwich meet together and produce the best of both worlds all on your favorite hoagie rolls.

In case you’re wondering what a hoagie roll is, it’s just another name for a sub bun that you can fill with delicious deli meats and of course all the delicious toppings.

So if you love either a good Italian salad recipe or classic cobb salad this is a family favorite recipe of ours in which you get the Italian sandwich sensation all in one bite since it is built with layers.

I love serving this great recipe as a main course for a light dinner because it is quick to put together, has a bunch of protein, and I can load it with all of my favorite salad toppings.

Ingredients for Italian Cobb Salad Sub

Italian cobb salad sub
  • Bread: Loaf of unsliced Italian bread
  • Sauces: use balsamic vinegar and Italian dressing
  • Lettuce: I like to use fresh iceberg lettuce or romaine lettuce or another crunchy lettuce
  • Deli meat: a combination of deli ham, deli turkey, and strips of bacon
  • Eggs: fresh hard-boiled eggs, sliced
  • Cheese: use slices of Swiss cheese from the deli or the dairy section of the grocery store
  • Tomato: Roma tomato slices are my favorite to use because they have tons of flavor but any will do
budget friendly meals

How to make Italian Cobb Salad Sub

  1. Cook bacon according to the package instructions. Let cool and set to the side.

2. Cut loaf of bread in half lengthways. Remove some (but not all) of the bread on the inside of the loaf by gently scoopin out the bread with a spoon. This will add more emphasis on what is inside of the bread not just the bread.

3. Brush the vinegar and Italian dressing on the top and bottom of the bread with a pastry brush.

How to store leftover Italian subs:

Fridge: Store any of the leftover ingredients that you would have put  on top of the salad and the shredded lettuce in the fridge for up to 4 days.

Counter: The sub buns’ remaining bread should be stored at room temperature for up to 3 days.
