Honey Bun Cake Ingredients

Honey Bun Cake is kind of an improper name for this cake since there isn’t any honey in it. Maybe it’s called Honey Bun Cake because you’re sweet as honey for making it? I don’t know. I’m just going to go with it though!

  • brown sugar
  • cinnamon
  • box yellow cake mix (just buy whichever is your favorite brand)
  • eggs
  • vegetable oil
  • sour cream (If you’ve never put sour cream in a cake and you think that sounds weird, just trust me! It makes cake so delicious and soft and gives a nice tang)
  • powdered sugar
  • milk
  • vanilla extract

How to Make Honey Bun Cake

Making this honey bun cake isnโ€™t very hard, but youโ€™ll end up with a layered cake that looks super impressive.

To make this cake, youโ€™ll want to make it in a couple of stages.

First, prepare your cinnamon layer by whisking the brown sugar and cinnamon together in a small bowl (these are my favorite mixing bowls). Set that aside and move on to your cake batter.

Make your cake batter by combining all the ingredients in a stand mixer (I absolutely love my KitchenAid) or in a large bowl with a hand mixer until well combined.

Grease 9×13 baking dish and pour just half of the batter into the dish. Spread that out with a spatula so that itโ€™s even. Next, grab your brown sugar and cinnamon mixture that you set aside and sprinkle over the top of the cake batter. Once it is all evenly covered with cinnamon sugar, pour the rest of the cake batter on top.

Bake the cake for 35 minutes at 325ยฐF, or until it is cooked through. You can check if your cake is done by inserting a toothpick in the center. If it comes out, clean, or with just a few crumbs on it, the cake is done.

While the cake is baking, make the glaze by whisking together the powdered sugar, milk, and vanilla.

Once the cake is out of the oven, pour glaze over the top, and serve. You’re going to absolutely love this cake!

Cake Mix Recipes

I love using cake mix as a shortcut for recipes. It saves me time measuring out flour, sugar, and rising agent, since it’s all already in there! I have a bunch of cake mix recipe hacks on my youtube and on my blog, but here are a few that I absolutely love:
