Homemade pizza is so much fun to make, but dealing with the dough can be tough, especially if you have little ones that like to “help”. I love to make French Bread Pizzas at home for an easy and budget-friendly meal. The French Bread is slathered with garlic butter and toasted before adding toppings. It’s like garlic bread and pizza had a baby. You’re going to love these garlicky, cheesy, toasty French Bread pizzas!

French Bread Pizza Ingredients

These French Bread Pizzas are super easy and budget-friendly. Depending on what your budget is for the month you can add toppings like pepperoni, sausage, peppers, onions, or anything else you want. If you want to make them plain they’re great as cheese pizzas too!

  • loaf of French bread: I use the Walmart brand– only $1.47 for the whole loaf
  • butter
  • onion powder
  • garlic powder
  • Italian seasoning: I buy this giant container so I never run out!
  • tomato sauce: don’t get marinara sauce or pizza sauce– you want to find plain tomato sauce because it is cheaper!
  • Italian seasoning
  • mozzarella cheese: shredded or not, whatever you have is great!
  • Toppings such as pepperoni, peppers, onions, olives, sausage, or anything else you’d like

How to Make French Bread Pizzas

Making these pizzas is so easy and honestly kind of fun. You can definitely get your kids to help with this one and there’s really no way they can mess it up, haha.

First, preheat your oven and slice open your french bread.

Next, make your garlic butter. You could buy premade garlic butter from the store but it is so simple to make it at home by combining melted butter and some seasonings. Brush that onto each half of the French bread with a pastry brush. Bake the bread in the oven for about 5 minutes or until it is lightly toasted. This wil help the bread to not get soggy once you add the sauce and toppings.

Meanwhile, make your pizza sauce by combining the canned tomato sauce and Italian seasoning. This is a great budget-friendly way to make pizza sauce. A can of tomato sauce is only about 44 cents at Walmart!

Once your French bread is out of the oven, assemble your pizzas. This is where your kids can have fun and help out! Spread pizza sauce and sprinle cheese on top. Add your favorite toppings.

Bake for just a few minutes, or until the cheese is melted. Cut into slices (like you would garlic bread) and serve!

Ingredients

  • 1 large loaf of French bread (I use the Walmart brand)

  • Garlic Butter
  • 5 tbsp butter, melted

  • 1/2 tsp onion powder

  • 1/2 tsp garlic powder

  • 1/2 tsp Italian seasoning

  • Pizza Sauce
  • 8 oz tomato sauce

  • 1 tsp Italian seasoning

  • Pizza
  • 8 oz mozzarella cheese

  • Toppings such as: pepperoni, peppers, onions, olives, sausage, or anything else you’d like

Directions

  • Preheat oven to 425 degrees.
  • Line a large sheet pan with parchment paper.
  • Slice open the French bread horizontally and place onto the sheet pan.
  • To a small bowl add the melted butter and seasonings for the garlic butter and whisk well. Brush the garlic butter mixture on the inside of each side of French bread. Bake for 5 minutes.
  • Pour the can of tomato sauce into a small bowl, then stir in 1 tsp of Italian seasoning. This is your pizza sauce.
  • Once French bread is out of the oven, pour the pizza sauce over the top, then top with the cheese and your favorite toppings. Bake for 5-7 minutes or until the cheese is melts. Cut into thick strips and enjoy.

  1. very very good! 10/10 me and my man loved it!

  2. Delicious! Thanks

  3. Made this for a quick dinner alongside a Cesar salad, came out delicious from the garlic butter and a nice crisp!

  4. Great recipe for the family! My 5 year old loved helping make this. It taste just like cheesy bread!
Just don’t add too many toppings or it’ll be soggy! I added pepperoni, prosciutto and banana peppers and it was too much.

    Will make again.

Thank you for a great, easy, fast, cheap and delicious recipe!
